WomBomb was formed in May 2000, with members
from other young bands around Street, and Glastonbury areas.
The founder of the band is Raven Byrne, the vocalist and song
writer, who was in Velvet Rain which played at Strode Theatre,
Street on several occasions. While at Strode College, Raven met
Bob Sainsbury who was the guitarist in Infect, and Nathan Nicholson
who was a local guitarist, and they then came together to form
WomBomb.
WomBomb perform original material, but influences include Nirvana, Sex Pistols, 80's New Wave and early 90's grunge. On occasions they have been compared to the Pixies, At the Drive-in, Joy Division - and the Doors, but they are more and more showing their own unique style. Their stage presentation is most certainly all their own, and Raven's performance is best described as 'ground breaking'!
They have played at venues around the area including The Three Crowns, Bridgwater; The Three Choughs, Yeovil; the Snooker Club and Labour Club, both in Yeovil; Sloanes and Café Mamba, Taunton; Tor Leisure and The King Arthur in Glastonbury, Wünder Bar in Midsomer Norton and various other gigs including Shepton Mallet and Long Sutton.
WomBomb recorded a three-track demo CD in 2001 entitled TV Abortion which was eagerly snapped up and well received when made available in very limited numbers at gigs, and was played on Radio BCR FM. They are building a loyal fan base, many of whom make a point of travelling to every gig and includes members of other bands, from Plymouth to Bristol.
At their gig at The King Arthur on 2nd March 2002, they released their much-awaited seven-track 'live-studio' eponymous album recorded in MTM Music studios near Taunton in January. However, they have already moved on considerably musicially since then and a further recording session is planned for late 2002 using an independent producer.
