Constitution for the Sedgemoor Contemporary Music Group

1. Object
The object of the organisation is to assist in the creation, dissemination, performance and promotion of original contemporary popular music and allied art forms in Bridgwater and the Sedgemoor area. The organisation will further this object, but no other, with whatever means it finds at its disposal.

2. Members
The task of the members will be to democratically further the object of the organisation and administer the organisation. Any person who wishes to further the above object may become a member by asking, at a general meeting or by other means prior to a general meeting, for their name to be included. A register of members will be kept. Members may resign. A person's membership may be terminated by a majority vote at a meeting where all members are aware that this will be discussed and are given all reasonable opportunity and notice to attend and at which the case of member in question has been given reasonable hearing.

3. General Meetings
Decisions concerning the organisation will be taken at general meetings. All members are eligible to attend, speak and vote at general meetings. General meetings will be held at least ten times each year, and the quorum will be five people, one of whom should be an elected officer. Reasonable notice of meetings will be given to all members. A record of proceedings will be made, kept, and insofar as is reasonably practicable circulated to all members.

4. Annual General Meetings
An annual general meeting will be held within fifteen months of the previous annual general meeting.

5. Officers
Offices will include chair, treasurer and secretary, and other such offices as may become necessary or seem like a good idea. The members may elect officers to fill vacant offices at any general meeting. A member who wishes to stand for election to an office must have been a member for at least one calendar month, and must make their intention to stand known to the secretary or chair before the meeting. All elected officers will retire from office at the following annual general meeting. A retiring officer will be eligible for re-election. An officer may resign. An office shall be vacated if so decided by a majority vote at a meeting where all members are aware that this will be discussed and are given all reasonable opportunity and notice to attend, and at which the case of the officer in question has been given reasonable hearing.

6. Finance
True accounts shall be kept of all financial transactions by the organisation. Funds shall be kept in a bank, building society or similar account by the treasurer, and withdrawals countersigned by another appointed member. All fund-raising shall be under the auspices of the group.

7. Change of Constitution
The constitution can be changed only by a two-thirds majority vote in favour at a meeting where all members are aware that this will be discussed and are given all reasonable opportunity and four weeks notice to attend.

8. Dissolution of Sedgemoor contemporary music group
The Sedgemoor contemporary music group can be dissolved only by a two-thirds majority vote in favour at a meeting where all members are aware that this will be discussed and are given all reasonable opportunity and four weeks notice to attend.
