THE YOUNG REPUBLIC
Genre: Rock/Folk/Classical
Web: www.theyoungrepublic.net/
Myspace: myspace.com/theyoungrepublic
Press Release: 12 Tales From Winter City’ is the debut album from The Young Republic. A compilation of sorts, the album compiles songs written and sold on cd-r’s at shows over the past two years. Recorded in classrooms, church halls and anywhere they could all fit in a room at once, roping in friends and allies (and at one point a 20 piece choir!), it is set to become one of the most exciting records you’ll hear in 2008. Combining classically trained musicians with classic indie-pop songwriting, End Of The Road have unearthed a major new talent.

The Young Republic walk the line between country soaked power pop and classical soaring strings. They layer their sounds, instruments and melodies to make harmony led songs of beauty, love, longing and belonging. Their ability to blend their talents and influences has resulted in a sound that is truly theirs, and has had critics struggling for comparison: From Jack White to Belle and Sebastian, Jonathan Richman to Arcade Fire, Mozart to The Shins, Springsteen to Bright Eyes no one seems quite able to put their finger on what it is that makes the band so special.

2007 saw the band play studio sessions for John Kennedy and Gideon Coe, festival appearances at Glastonbury and End of the Road, and a support tour with My Brightest Diamond in the UK, as well as a handful of rapturously received headline shows proving the band to be a force to be reckoned with on stage as well as on record.

Word Magazine: “This Debut achieves plenty, seamlessly skipping from folk introspection and lonesome country balladry to high voltage power-pop sparkiness with a glitteringly perfect cohesion.”

Q: “...the sense of potential is tantalising.”
Rough Trade: “12 Slices of American Indie Heaven”

Guardian: “His [Julian Saporiti] voice fizzles with Jonathan Richman’s wryness and Jack White’s bite, adding extra dazzle to songs that flit playfully between 1960’s Phil Spector style sparkle, power pop, and jaunty country… Catch them while you can”

JASON ROWE
Genre: Acoustic/Pop
Web: http://jason-rowe.com/
Myspace: myspace.com/jasonrowe88
Press Release: Jason Rowe, the songwriter and thoroughbred musician who was born in a small town [YEOVIL] near Bristol (England), has written an homage to his love life.
The songs were conceived in collaboration with co-writers such as Louis Goffin, Dominic Miller, Greg Wells, and his co-producer, Jim Huff. Musically, he was supported on his album by amazing instrumentalists - Jason's dream musicians, among them Randy Cooke (drums), Jon Button (bass) and Dave Yaden (keyboards). The legendary sound mixer, Barry Rudolph, helmed the recordings, and Chris Bellman (mastering for Elton John, Guns N' Roses, among others) of "Bernie Grundman Mastering" had a lot of "fun" at the studio.
The result is Jason Rowe's very own, personal "LOVELIFE".
Even his purely acoustic shows have his audience jump to their feet, and his fans compare him with the musicians that he has admired since his adolescence.
Enjoy listening to Jason Rowe's "Lovelife" ...

ALLAN TAYLOR
Genre: Acoustic/Folk
Web: http://www.allantaylor.com
Myspace: myspace.com/allantaylorsongwriter
Press Release: For 35 years Allan Taylor has been considered as the consummate performer, a writer of literary gracefulness whose troubadour chronicles encapsulate the realism of otherwise unsung heroes, otherwise uncharted lives. His songs are faultlessly constructed and flawlessly performed, with his instantly recognisable voice, attractively dark and mellow, accompanied by his intricately detailed yet full-sounding guitar. Few people can convey with such eloquence their life experiences. His songs are written from a lifetime of travelling. Always the observer passing through, each song is a vignette of life, like a story told over a drink in a bar. Each has an integrity that tells you it comes from something real; characters come to life like people you know and places become as familiar as if you had been there.
Beautifully crafted, worldly-wise songs with beguiling, precision-built guitar accompaniments, delivered in a firm, American-tinged voice that sounds as if it is telling you a story. (Alistair Clark writing in The Scotsman)
He should probably be regarded as potentially the most important songwriter of his generation. (Dr. Frederick Woods, The Oxford Book of Traditional Verse)
Allan continues to produce albums of such high standard and unstinting quality and freshness, he need have no worries about maintaining a healthy profile. (David Kidman, fRoots, April 2004)

Press Release:
Musician, songwriter, producer, arranger, singer, philosopher, wit.
Not a description of Oscar Wilde, but one of the UK’s most popular yet unsung musical heroes, GRAHAM GOULDMAN, whose catchy tunes and lyrical messages are still being enjoyed in most corners of the world, some thirty years after his first hit. If songs like the timeless classic, I’m Not In Love, the poptastic Things We Do For Love or the quasi reggae Dreadlock Holiday mean little or nothing, then reader, read on, you’ve had you ears tuned to the wrong station all these years.

Graham left school in his hometown of Manchester as soon as was legally possible, and was soon fronting the Whirlwinds on lead guitar. This was the Sixties, the most exciting time in the history of Western music when the Beatles were happening,

Graham had his first Top 10 hit at the age of 19, with the haunting, For Your Love, recorded by The Yardbirds. Graham’s songwriting career was off with a flourish.

He penned two more big hits for The Yardbirds, Heartful Of Soul and Evil Hearted You and had his next Top 10 hit with Look Through Any Window which he wrote for The Hollies. Bus Stop and the hits continued. Pamela Pamela was ex-Mindbenders Wayne Fontana’s biggest solo hit. Herman’s Hermit hit the Top 10 with No Milk Today, which featured the unforgettable suburban comment, “the bottle stands forlorn, a symbol of the dawn”, and East West which was covered in 1991 be fellow Mancunian Morrissey.

Between 1972 and 1976, 10cc had an outstanding string of hit records, such as the two No 1’s Rubber Bullets and the aforementioned I’m Not In Love, I’m Mandy Fly Me, Wall Street Shuffle, Art For Art’s Sake and many more, making them one of the most successful and influential English bands of the ‘70s.

I’m Not In love became an all time classic love song. In the 20-something years since Gouldman and Stewart wrote the song, its been covered by artists as diverse as the Pretenders (their version featured in the smash movie Indecent Proposal), Will To Power, and, more recently, The Fun Loving Criminals.

10cc Chart Positions:
Rubber Bullets 1
I’m Not In Love 1
Dreadlock Holiday 1
Donna 2
Art For Art’s Sake 5
Good Morning Judge 5
The Things We Do For Love 6

The live band’s line-up is:
Graham Gouldman – bass, guitar, vocals
Rick Fenn – lead guitar, vocals
Paul Burgess - drums
Mick Wilson - percussion, guitar, vocals
Mike Stevens – keyboards, guitar, sax, vocals Paul has worked with 10cc from the beginning and Rick joined the band in the mid-‘70s.

“In the last twelve months Countryside have wasted no time in making a lasting impression on Bristol's musical landscape. (2007)__EP Review… ‘CLICK.SUBMIT.SEND’
…Click. Submit. Send. achieves an intimacy, excitement and a magic in a brief eight song run that most bands don't garner in full-length releases. And at the end of the day that is what is important. Not the hype the band is going to generate, the magazine covers or the eventual bidding war that is sure to ensue. It should always be about the music. This EP does what all good ones do: it ends too soon and it leaves you frantically awaiting the eventual follow up. All the cool kids on your block are going to own this eventually, so why not pick it up now and be ahead of the curve. 4/5 - Broken Dial - New York, USA.
