Hundred Reasons

DT - What's your name and what do you do in HR?

Colin - I'm Colin and I sing in the band

DT - Can you just give a quick explanation of how you guys came together?

Colin - Just a bunch of guys who all played in bands around the same area, and some of the bands actually did shows together. SO we all got to know each other, and then ended up doing this.

DT - You released your first two albums and several singles on Columbia Records, but have since parted ways with them. Could you give a brief explanation as to why this relationship failed?

Colin - Yeh they were crap you know, that's why we left. That was that really, and now we're with V2 and it's much better.

DT - I was just going to ask you how you're enjoying being on your new record label V2?

Colin - Oh its fine, they're totally cool. They back us all the way, send us on tour, silly little things which you take for granted being a band but are aware of it you know, it's good.

DT - Kerrang! gave your new album 'Kill Your Own' 4K's and said it's as good as the debut, and NME say it's your best work yet, so do you feel the fact that 'Kill Your Own' has reached #79 in the UK album charts as apposed to your debut album 'Ideas Above Our Station' which reached #6 is down to being on an Indie label?

Colin - No not at all, it's just down to the fact that we've been away for a while. We've got some work to do. So you know, you haven't got the sort of 'hype machine' behind you, like, the "you're new and exciting" thing behind as you have when you're releasing a new album. So you know, we realise we've got some work to catch up on, cus while we've been away other bands have come along and all that kind of thing, so we're just putting the work in again.

DT - So would you personally say that even though the new album hasn't propelled you to the same heights that your previous albums did, it's still as good as, if not better than them?

Colin - Well I think it's better than the first album, and you can't really put sales onto whether something's good or not, cus that doesn't matter for shit when it comes to the quality of the actual product. But ywh I think it's better than the first album, I prefer it. Not saying the first albums bad or anything
(Laughs)
Colin - I just prefer it.

DT - By playing the big festivals you are, like Download and Leeds/Reading, do you feel that it will let people know you're back and hopefully get back into the band, or is it an attempt to gain a new fan base, or maybe both?

Colin - Yeh it's a bit of both, it's why everyone does a festival you know. Unless you're Muse and headlining it, in which case you get offered a lot of money for that. You go and play in front of people who don't know who you are, and people who do know who you are. You gotta have a nice balance of both because, the people at the front who know who you are having a good time jumping up and down with you are the ones that get you into the show, and then hopefully get people at the back into it as well.

DT - So you're playing in Bridgwater as a pre-Download warm-up show, have you had a chance to have a wonder around?

Colin - No not at all unfortunately. We kinda got here, unloaded, set-up and sound checked. Everything will be closing soon so we're just gunna chill out!

DT - Who are you hoping to see when you play at Download?

Colin - Umm well I guess definitely Guns N' Roses, Metallica who will be hopefully playing loadsa old stuff so that'll be cool. Sikth, Alice In Chains, umm there's quite a few.

DT - After Download you head off on a European tour, what are your favourite places to play on the continent?

Colin - I quite like Scandinavia, and Germany and France. You know I like all of Europe really, we've always had a really nice time when we're over there. You never go over there with any expectations and if you do that you have a good time. the shows have always been quite cool for us over there in Europe so yeah we're looking forward to going back.

DT - Have you got any funny stories from being on tour?

Colin - Yes, but not for your consumption I'm afraid
(Laughs)

DT - Who are your favourite bands you've toured with?

Colin - Umm, Muse, Incubus, they're pretty good to tour with. We've toured with a bunch of people, most bands have been really cool. I mean you don't necessarily have to like the music, they've always been really good people. There's only been about two occasions we've toured with a band we don't like. Touring with Biffy Clyro was brilliant, umm yeah there's loads!

DT - Finally is there anything else you'd like to add, or say to the people coming to see you guys tonight?

Colin - Umm I hope you had a good time, otherwise when they read this it won't be accurate
(Laughs)

DT - Thanks very much Colin enjoy the gig

Colin - Thanks!
