Angeline is one of the leading voices in English folk music today and is widely celebrated for her soulful, resonant voice, evocative songwriting, and deeply affecting performances. Angeline’s songwriting and approach to traditional folk song, explores ordinary lives with reverence and curiosity. Accompanying herself on autoharp, dulcimer, and mbira, or singing unaccompanied, she delivers performances that linger long in memory.

Her groundbreaking album The Sorrow Songs: Folk Songs of Black British Experience, released on historic label Topic Records, illuminated the often-overlooked Black British presence within the folk canon. Hailed as The Guardian’s Folk Album of the Year, it spent 15 weeks in the Top 40 Official Folk Albums Chart and is described by Angeline as a re-storying and a gift to forgotten Black ancestors and today’s folk community.

Angeline’s artistry has earned standing ovations on stages large and small, with MOJO ranking her in the top 5 key voices of 2023. In July 2024 Angeline and The Sorrow Songs Band performed live at the BBC Proms in Newcastle and the concert was aired live on BBC Radio 3. Reviews applauded the deeply resonant performance; ‘Angeline Morrison’s Prom was far more than just a concert; it was an educational and emotional experience.’ (Classical Source). Angeline was the fourth recipient of the prestigious Christian Raphael Prize, in association with Cambridge Folk Festival. In recent years, Angeline has performed at major festivals and made her TV debut on Later With Jools Holland and was sought after for radio appearances on BBC Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4 and Radio 6 Music.

Angeline’s diverse influences span folk, soul and other genres, having performed in projects like The Mighty Sceptres and Rowan: Morrison. Her forthcoming album, Luminous Dark, explores themes of alchemy, magic, and decolonisation, embracing the transformative power of the union between darkness and light. The Birmingham born-musician is now settled in Cornwall, where she is an active figure in the local music scene.

Truly revolutionary.
New Internationalist
It’s not often that someone just seemingly stands up and announces that they are a major artist on the folk scene – but that is what happened.
Americana UK
Ophelia shows her astonishing range and broad ideas. Flashes of jazz, lush zithers and her deep, resonant voice mark her as an artist to support and savour.’
The Guardian
Deeply moving ballads don’t so much tear the roof off as plunge their hands into your heart and wring out the tears.
Morning Star
Morrisons gorgeous voice and autoharp render the likes of ‘Unknown African Boy’ as instant folk classics.
