Rhoda Dakar began her musical career as lead vocalist with all female 2Tone band, The Bodysnatchers in 1979. She went on to record with The Specials, The Special AKA and Madness, along with her solo work. She has 7 gold albums and 2 silver covering these and other recording projects. As a collaborator, Rhoda has worked on singles with the Dub Pistols and US Ska Punk heroes The Interrupters, alongside Rancid’s Tim Armstrong. Rhoda tours with a five-piece backing band and regularly receives rave reviews across the board. In fact Louder Than War describe her as a ”goddamn national treasure”. Also a respected DJ, she has toured with UB40, The Selecter and The Specials. She has also written sleevenotes for Trojan Records, The English Beat and the late Terry Hall.

In August 2025 Rhoda released ‘Version Girl In Dub’ a dub rendering of 2023’s Sunday Best album, ‘Version Girl’, to rave reviews calling it a “dub lover’s delight” and her the “Queen of UK Pop Reggae”. In 2024 ‘Rhoda Dakar sings The Bodysnatchers – 45 Year Edition’ was also released on Sunday Best Records. This was the album’s third iteration, with this one featuring Aimee Interrupter joining Rhoda on a new version of ‘Let’s Do Rocksteady’. In 2023 her album ‘Version Girl’ reached number 10 in the national Album Charts and number 2 in the Indie Charts.

Rhoda is a long-time patron and now also a trustee of the Music Venue Trust, working to secure the future of grassroots music venues across the UK.
