Indie titans, Craig Walker of Power of Dreams and Archive and Dan Worton of Ned’s Atomic Dustbin and Spairs have joined forces to form Spoon Speaker Man. ‘The Age of No Opinion‘ album (Big Pond Records) is a testament to their skill, energy and dynamism, fusing Worton’s prowess as a multi- instrumentalist with Craig’s whip- smart lyricism and resonant vocals. For OG grebos and Gen X indie kids this is a is dream combo. Together, their synergy and creative output is just as vital as ever, forming a new chapter in their extensive indie catalogue.

Spoon Speaker Man is NOT a project and Craig Walker and Dan Worton are joined by musical powerhouse Kerry Worton who adds immense vocal range, verve and texture to the ‘”veritable super- groupe” (Rolling Stone FR) with her fierce guitar skills together with superb guitarist Jason Brown from Brix And The Extricated, Tom Hingley & The Lovers and powerful session drummer Peter Huntington with the The Who. All stalwarts and experts in their respective fields, you would think that they had been playing together for years. Onstage their chemistry is warm and electric and they fit perfectly together like a prime game of Tetris – moving, ebbing and flowing in fierce melodic sync to give each other space to shine.

Recent radio play of tracks from their album, including the new song “Tunnel Vision,” has gained considerable attention on UK and US stations such as BBC Radio 6 and Louder Than War, among others. This new single debuted alongside their first performance at the Shiiine On Festival in Skegness, where they shared the Central Stage with notable acts like Kingmaker, Jim Bob, and Ned’s Atomic Dustbin. Spoon Speaker Man was recognised as one of the top 20 live bands of the weekend, highlighting their growing popularity and impactful performances.

The band’s recent tour across the UK proved to be a remarkable success, featuring special guests like Stephen Hanley from The Fall, as well as Jonn Penney and Alex Griffin from Ned’s Atomic Dustbin. Together with Spoon Speaker Man, they delivered a captivating performance of a track from their respective bands, creating a memorable experience for fans.

The insightful and intuitive lyrics perfectly encapsulate the fear and realities of present day.

How could I resist the charms of a team up between Ned’s Atomic Dustbin drummer Dan Worton and Craig Walker, frontman for 1990s Irish indie heroes Power of Dreams? That’s right, I couldn’t – and you’re also likely to succumb to their charms if you’re a sucker for melodic indie rock done right: catchy hooks, loud guitars, pummelling drums and the odd pretty, twinkly, quieter bit for good measure.
