💥 SUMMER PLAY – TV Pins – CAREER DEFINING MOMENTS!

As part of our Summer Play Series we asked TV Pins to tell us about a career defining moment!

“Between the three founding members of TV Pins we’ve had lots of defining moments. As part of 1990s Busking pop phenomenon, Bean, Duncan & Miles toured in Canada, Australia & Europe making huge waves on the Fringe, Cabaret and Music festival circuits. They performed on TV shows and released singles that lead to supports with big 90s acts such as Blur. Miles went on to be an award-winning composer and arranger in his own right ,writing for Film and major events in Australia. Simon, the bass guitarist and co-writer founded one of the worlds most lauded tribute bands, The Smyths and for many years has toured internationally and become known for sparkling live performances.

More recently we all reconnected and a regular, boozy mid-week catch up turned into a songwriting session. It turns out that starting an original band in your 50s is a great thing to do. We’d assembled the engine room of a band – bass, drums and guitar and all three of us songwriters. We just needed a singer. We imagined it would be someone in the same age bracket. On the first night we were allowed out after lockdown, Simon our bass player walked into an Open Mic night and saw James singing, loved his voice and gave him a demo of our tunes.

One week later James walked into Simon’s kitchen to audition – a pretty confronting situation at any age but at 19 it’s massive. James sat down and smashed out all four songs, lyric and pitch perfect. We grabbed an acoustic guitar and bass and the four of us walked up Bull Street in Stratford Upon Avon, straight onto the Open Mic stage and did our first gig. Smashed it. TV Pins was born.”
