Priorland

People’s first impressions of Priorland is their sheer musicality, not surprising when you consider they got together while studying music at Dundalk Institute of Technology in Ireland. All four members contribute to writing duties and the band’s eclectic musical style is attributed to Calvin, Tommy, Davie and Conor’s diverse song writing abilities.

Their style ranges from Rock, Reggae, R&B, Soul, Blues and Pop. Tommy Hughes grew up with a traditional Irish music background, his strong soulful vocal style has helped define Priorland’s sound. Calvin McManus (Cal), has been surrounded by musicians his whole life, a multi-instrumentalist, but a guitarist at heart. Also on guitar, David Boyle (Davie) is the driving force of the band’s enthusiasm and Conor Kavanagh (‘C’) has talent beyond his years, evident in his very personal and home-grown drumming style. Conor and Davie began playing together in a previous band ‘Harmonic Faze’.

With such a wide range of writing styles stemming from the influences of these young band members, their songs are ripe with lyrical meaning, instrumental proficiency and melodic hooks that strike home. Priorland reach out and invite you into their world of music.

Playing together for three years, the band released their debut single ‘Ruins of a gypsy’ in 2018, which has been described as “rather splendid indeed” and “somewhat reminiscent of
Talking Heads or Nathaniel Ratecliff”. The track caught on and racked up plays with numerous Irish radio stations.

Their music has spread across Ireland and abroad with festival slots such as Liverpool Tall Ships Festival, Sligo Live, Free Fringe Festival, Drogheda Arts Festival and a show in Dublin’s iconic venue Whelan’s. “We picked Priorland as a Sligo Live ‘Arrivals’ act in 2018 and they certainly didn’t disappoint, packing out their venue and earning a fantastic audience reaction. They’ll be back!” – Sligo Live Director Rory O’Connor

Priorland are currently in the pre-production and writing stages of their debut EP, scheduled for release soon.
