One of the things nobody tells you about going solo is how much you miss having someone to think out loud with.
Not a client. Not an artist. Just a colleague, someone who understands the industry, knows your roster, and can tell you honestly whether that routing makes sense or whether you’re underselling that festival slot.
At Midnight Mango every agent is part of a small team. Each team has a leader, a salaried, senior member of Midnight Mango whose job is to know your roster, help you think through booking strategy and routing, and be in your corner when you need them.
Alongside the Team Leader there are three freelance agents as part of the team. Freelance agents are not necessarily junior – some of our most experienced and highest earning agents are happily freelance and have no interest in being anything else; but they bring knowledge and support to their teams.
On top of that there’s Pip, our training and support officer, whose sole focus is making sure every agent is confident and capable with the software and systems we use. If you have a question about the platform, Pip has the answer.
Then there’s the learning side of things. Every month our team leaders run a workshop series practical, focused sessions on booking, routing, roster development and the craft of agenting. Also monthly, we bring in speakers from festivals, promoters and across the wider industry for our Meet The Expert series. Real people, real insights, real connections.
And then there’s everything that happens outside of work.
Our agents meet at festivals and gigs throughout the year, sometimes planned, sometimes not. They visit each other in different cities and countries. They become friends. Genuinely. The kind of friendships that come from working closely with people who love the same thing you do.
It’s a remote company. But it doesn’t feel like one.
